In southern Russia, employees of the Federal Security Service detained a soldier suspected of spying for Ukraine. This was reported by the FSB Public Relations Center. The name and surname, as well as the rank of the detainee, are not given.

“A federal citizen of the Russian Federation in the city of Aksay, Rostov Region, on suspicion of treason, has detained a Russian citizen, a serviceman of the Southern Military District,” the report said.

According to the agency, the detainee carried out the task of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. It is noted that he purposefully collected secret military information regarding the Armed Forces of Russia. As the FSB emphasizes, the leak of secret data abroad could be detrimental to the state’s defense.

“The FSB of Russia has instituted criminal proceedings on the grounds of a crime under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of Russia (“ High Treason ”). Investigative actions are ongoing, ”concluded the FSB FSB.

The accused under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation faces a sentence of imprisonment of 12 to 20 years. According to normative acts, treason refers to espionage committed by a citizen of the Russian Federation and the issuance of information constituting a state secret to a foreign state, foreign organization or their representatives.
