The former presidents of the Junta de Andalucía Manuel Chaves and José Antonio Griñán have been convicted of ERE fraud.

The sentence issued on Tuesday by the Audience of Seville provides that Griñán must serve 6 years in prison and Manuel Chaves 9 of special disqualification for crimes of embezzlement and prevarication in the first case and for prevailing the second.

For notification , the court summoned all defendants, with prosecutors, at twelve noon in the main courtroom of the Palace of Justice in Seville. There, the secretary has been calling, one by one, to all the defendants and has delivered the resolution in digital format, in a pen drive , in addition to a paper extract with the fundamentals, with the ruling.

The sentence that has been known today is the culmination of a trial that began on December 13, 2017 and lasted almost a year, until December 17 of the following year, when the case was seen for sentencing after 152 sessions.

Right after the president of the court pronounced the 'seen for sentencing' the deliberation phase began, for which the three magistrates - Esperanza Gómez and Pilar Llorente in addition to Juan Antonio Calle himself - were released for six months. Since then, only Calle has remained exclusively dedicated to the drafting of the sentence.

That period of liberation ended on October 26, but the magistrate asked the Andalusian Superior Court of Justice for a fifteen-day extension that was granted and that allowed the ERE sentence to be unknown in the middle of the electoral campaign of the generals of last November 11, but just after, today.
