“I welcome the statement by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on the legality of Jewish settlements on the West Bank,” Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz wrote on his Twitter.
At the same time, he emphasized that the sovereignty of Israel over this territory is not in doubt and the US decision only confirms the position of the European Court.
Netanyahu, in turn, expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump for correcting the "historical error."
“The United States has taken an important political course that corrects the historic mistake ... Israel is deeply grateful to President Trump, Secretary of State Pompeo and the entire US administration for their firm position in supporting truth and justice,” the government’s press service quoted him as saying.
He also called on all other countries to take a similar position.
Earlier, Pompeo announced a change in the US position on the legitimacy of Israeli settlements in Palestine and their compliance with international law.
