Parliament speaker Archil Talakvadze during the meeting declared the impossibility of a coup in the country.

“Part of the opposition must remember that it can no longer defend the rights of citizens, the media, the state and parliament,” he stressed.

At the same time, Talakvadze was holding a chain and a lock, which closed the doors of the parliament.

“I want to remember and return (to protesters. - RT ) a symbolically broken chain and a castle expressing their values,” he said.

Earlier, the Georgian Interior Ministry detained 18 people during the dispersal of the protest at the parliament building in Tbilisi.

The protests in Tbilisi began after the deputies refused to accept amendments to the Constitution on the transition from a mixed electoral system to a proportional one.
