Emirates, the largest airline in the Middle East, has signed a $ 16 billion (€ 14.4 billion) deal for the purchase of 50 Airbus 350-900, announced Monday its president, Sheikh Ahmed ben Said Al-Maktoum.

"I am pleased to announce the purchase of 50 Airbus 350 for $ 16 billion," the CEO told the press at the Dubai Airshow International Air Show held Sunday in the emirate.

"I am very proud that the Airbus 350 was chosen by Emirates, which is very good news for Airbus," said Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury.

The contract is specifically for A350-900 aircraft that can hold 314 passengers.

The Dubai company said in a statement, have earned a net profit of $ 235 million in the first six months of its fiscal year against 62 million in the same period last year. The fiscal year begins on April 1st.

Emirates' global network includes more than 158 destinations in 84 countries. Its fleet is made up of 267 large aircraft, including more than 100 Airbus 380s.

The Dubai company announced in early November that it had almost tripled its half-year profits thanks to a reduction in operating costs and lower fuel prices.
