18 November 2019From the first light of dawn, in Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Serbia, a vast operation of the Carabinieri of the Cultural Heritage Protection Command is underway which, with the coordination of Europol and Eurojust, are carrying out an application ordinance precautionary measures, issued by the investigating judge of the court of Crotone, against 23 people and contextual search activity against another 80 individuals, of which 4 are domiciled abroad.

At the center of the investigations, coordinated by the prosecutor's office of the Republic of Crotone, were the activities of a criminal holding company which, for some time, had been managing a huge traffic of archaeological goods, the result of illegal excavations in Calabria and also destined for illegal export abroad. The investigations, started in 2017, have allowed the recovery of numerous archaeological finds worth several million euros.

This was stated by Minister of Cultural Heritage Dario Franceschini, commenting on the operation of the carabinieri.
