The popular protests in Lebanon have entered their second month, stressing that before October 17th is not the same as after, as the protest broke the fear barrier in the hearts of the Lebanese, and imposed itself on all issues of life, political and economic.

The protests forced Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri to resign on 29 October amid Lebanon's worst economic crisis since the 1975-1990 civil war.

Despite the resignation of the government, protests continue to demand the departure of the rest of the ruling class, accused of corruption and incompetence, accelerating the process of forming a technocrat government, holding early elections, recovering looted funds, and holding corrupt officials accountable.

Protesters are also demanding an end to all manifestations of sectarianism, especially in government. Lebanon has three presidencies: the republic, a Maronite Christian, the government, a Sunni Muslim, and the parliament, a Shia Muslim.

The protests began in response to the government's approval of a new tax package on citizens, including increased fees on oil derivatives and cigarettes, and the imposition of a fee of six dollars on communication through the application "WhatsApp" free.

The protests began on the 17th of last month in the capital Beirut and other provinces, including cutting roads and breaking the facades of shops, buildings and banks, as well as tearing pictures of political leaders and storming the offices of deputies in southern Lebanon.

The idea of citizenship
According to writer and political analyst Asaad Bishara, last October 17 "was a date for radical change without planning or management from any political forces .. It was a popular revolution with national goals under the title of building the state and the restoration of those who kidnapped Lebanon to failure and corruption ".

He added that "the achievements of the revolution during this period of time are great and many, the first achievement is the emergence of a cross-sectarian popular class emerged from the old loyalties and entered into the idea of citizenship."

Bishara considered that this class was born the most important class to build Lebanon, which deserves the Lebanese, especially as it carries the spirit of young people who do not belong to the generation of war, and want to turn the page of war and its effects, the military war in Lebanon ended in 1990, but the cold war between the Lebanese continued until It was added to Kuwait Directory Rinnoo.net on 17 October 2019.

He added that after this date, it can be said that Lebanon is in the process of turning the page of war and its effects once and for all. "In a country like Lebanon, the overthrow of the government is a huge achievement. Who each carried out a war of cancellation of the leadership, in line with the leaders of the other sects to share power. "

The Lebanese street is pressuring President Michel Aoun to start parliamentary consultations to appoint a president to form a government of salvation specialists, capable of managing the economic crisis.

Hours after news that former finance minister Mohammed al-Safadi might be assigned, protesters voiced disapproval and denounced the deal's closed-door policy.

Safadi asked, on Saturday evening, to withdraw his name among the candidates to form a government, saying - in a statement - "The situation is no longer likely to wait nor evasive nor additional consultations."

He felt that it is difficult to form a homogeneous government and supported by all political parties to enable them to take immediate rescue measures put an end to economic and financial deterioration and respond to the aspirations of people in the street.

Achievements of the Revolution
For his part, writer and political analyst Ali Sbeity said that what the revolution accomplished so far was a dream, as it was impossible to stand up to the political class armed with power and money.

"We woke up to the illusion of reality after the revolution turned the dream into a reality in which the entity of power shook and the political class was terrified after people lost custody of them when they abandoned the logic of sects, and cried the cry of the slaughtered homeland," he said.

"This in itself is the greatest achievement. The fact that the PA is subjected to the pressure of the street is a new addition to the achievements of the revolution.

Sbeiti said that Hariri's resignation, and thus his adherence to a technocrat government, are other additions to the achievements of the revolution.

In return for Hariri's adherence to a technocratic government so as not to upset the protesters, Aoun, Hizbullah, Amal and the Free Patriotic Movement want a hybrid government of politicians and specialists.

According to journalist Tony Boulos, the revolution was able to consolidate several points in one month, including the fact that the people emerged from the sectarian and partisan cloak and broke the unilateralism in the Shiite street, especially since there is a view that the Shiite sect belongs to Hezbollah and Amal, but the revolution revealed the fact that there is a Shiite stream A free man who demands freedom and liberalism, and refuses to live under the roof of the de facto forces.
