As every year, February 1, 2020, the tariffs of the motorway network of France will increase. The "JDD" announces a 0.85% increase in the price of tolls. A figure however less important than what had been indicated by the Secretary of State for transport, Jean-Baptiste Djebbari.

ON THE JDD

Tolls will increase by 0.85% in 2020, according to JDD information. On February 1, as every year, the motorway network raises its rates. A rise that will be less than recently announced by Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, Secretary of State for Transport, which expected an increase of 1 to 1.5% on average. This represents 10 to 20 cents more on the journeys of motorists.

The seven concession companies have decided to increase them with the government, which has yet to be validated by January by the state. These increases ranged from 0.71% for the Cofiroute network (Vinci Autoroutes) to 1.07% for the Area highways (Eiffage group). In practice, a route Lyon-Orange for example, managed by ASF (Vinci) will increase from 17.70 euros to 17.90 euros.

Falling inflation

In 2019, prices had risen from 1.8 to 1.9%. The smaller increase for 2020 is mainly due to the continued decline in inflation, which stands at 0.6% in October, excluding tobacco prices.

Each year, Bercy receives 40% of the total toll revenue, equivalent to five billion euros. A renationalisation of the highways sometimes comes back in the public debate, it was the case in particular during the movement of "yellow vests".
