The name Kopparberg may be associated primarily with the brewery, or with the town of Kopparberg in the municipality of Ljusnarsberg.

Twice the municipality has had referendums to change its name to Kopparberg municipality. The results have been no both times, most recently in 2014.

If you search for Kopparberg.se, you will not end up on a website about Ljusnarsberg Municipality's urban area, or the brewery. Instead, they are met by personals with easily dressed women.

- It's less flattering, of course, but it's not the municipality's name that is used. We see it more like it might be to sell the site. That it is a means of pressure when designing the page in this way, says Ewa-Leena Johansson (S), who is the chair of the municipal council in Ljusnarsberg municipality.

Be reserved for the municipality

According to the organization the Internet Foundation, which is responsible for the Internet's top Swedish domain .se, the domain name Kopparberg.se was reserved by the foundation from 2003 until December 2008. It could only be registered by the municipality of Ljusnarsberg. Before the domain name was released, the municipality must have been informed that this would happen.

- We haven't talked about registering it. We have not looked at buying more domains or other place names, says Ewa-Leena Johansson, who also states that the municipality has no plans to try to take over the name.

- I raised the issue with all the politicians when we had a meeting, and we said that we do not want to contribute to this kind of rogue business making money.

Previously got right in a dispute

Kopparberg's brewery does not want to participate in an interview, but writes in an e-mail to SVT Nyheter Örebro that they tried to take over the domain but that those who own were not willing to release it.

In the Internet Foundation's register, it says that the company behind the domain is “web media in Bollnäs AB”. The same company has previously been right in a dispute with the Municipality of Kävlinge, when the municipality requested that the internet domain kävlinge.se be transferred to the municipality's ownership. The company then had to retain the right to the name.

SVT News Örebro has searched the company for a comment.
