Taiwan is an island governed autonomously and democratically, but like Hong Kong it is claimed by China. The people are showing their solidarity with Hong Kong people regularly, and they are worried about their future. A big concert for Hong Kong and for democracy takes place this Sunday evening in Taipei.

With our correspondent in Taiwan, Adrien Simorre

"Hong Kong Support": The words are chanted with emotion here in Taiwan. In Taipei Liberty Square, thousands of people came to this concert, all to show their solidarity with the Hong Kong people.

" Because we are in a similar situation, like HK, we are suffering from China's oppression," says Yu Shuan, 25. That's why it's important for us to be here for them. "

Seven music groups, all Taiwanese, have responded to this event organized by a citizen collective. But the heart is not really at the party. " I fear that Taiwan will become the next Hong Kong, because we are not recognized as a country by the international community ," says the singer of The Chairman.

The concert is in full swing, the Tibetan flags mingle with the rainbow colors of LGBT movements but also the leaflets of Taiwanese independence.
In January 2020, the Taiwanese president will face a candidate who defends a rapprochement with China.

And in the face of the Hong Kong crisis, the concern is palpable, as young Yen Wu Chen explains: " Taiwan has fought for democracy. And if in January 2020 we vote for the pro-Beijing candidate, I think what happens in Hong Kong could happen in Taiwan. "

Highly anticipated by the younger generation, the Fire EX band ends with a song in Taiwanese and not Mandarin. The lyrics are addressed to Taiwan: " You have nightmares, and you can not sleep, I hope that tomorrow you will be safe ".
