17 November 2019 True Christians must not listen to those who give alarms and spread fear towards others. It is the warning that Pope Francis makes during the homily of the Mass in the Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican, for the celebration of the third 'World Day of the Poor'.

"It should not be followed - warns the Pontiff - those who spread alarmism and feed the fear of others and of the future, because fear paralyzes the heart and the mind. Yet - he complains - how many times we let ourselves be seduced by the rush to want to know everything and immediately , from the itch of curiosity, from the last striking or scandalous news, from murky stories, from the screams of those who shout louder and more angry, from those who say 'now or never'. But this does not come from God ".

Longing for the few, poverty of many
Today "in the desire to run, to conquer everything and immediately, those who remain behind are annoyed. And it is judged as a waste: how many elderly people, unborn children, disabled people, poor people considered useless. We are in a hurry, without worrying that distances are increasing, that the greed of a few increases the poverty of many ", Pope Francis continued, but urging the Church not to give in to the easy flattery of the" hypocritical charity ", which has the forms of charity, but certainly not the spirit.

Many times, he said during the mass for the Third World Day of the Poor, "even in doing good, the hypocrisy of the self reigns: I do good but to be considered good; gift, but to receive in my turn; help, but to attract the friendship of that important person ".
