This year, five schools in Västmanland are participating in the Aktion Christmas Gift. The packages that schools make will be distributed to children in poor families in Moldova, Romania and Ukraine. During the last three years, schools, associations, companies and private individuals have sent 2,775 Christmas presents from Västmanland.

At Starbäcksskolan, they have divided the cost of the package. It is voluntary to participate and contribute, and if you participate you only bring a toothpaste, toothbrush, tablet box, soap, gift paper and a card, the rest costs the school.

- We see how children in poor families have it and what joy the Christmas presents give. We get it into our core values of taking care of each other and being generous. Children help children, says Pamela Astley, teacher at Starbäck School in Surahammar.

120 Christmas presents are sent from Starbäcksskolan

By participating in the Action Christmas Gift, the children receive a diploma and a greeting from a child who has received a Christmas gift. This year, Starbäcksskolan expects to get around 120 Christmas presents.

- I think the kids who get the Christmas presents will be happy when their parents can't afford food, says Roddy Seljesson, a student in year 2 of the Starbäcks school.
