School lunch whales Won resumption of commercial whaling

Following the resumption of commercial whaling, the bipartisan parliamentarians have compiled a draft amendment to the law that includes promoting the use of whales in school meals, with the aim of enacting the current parliament.

In response to Japan's withdrawal from the IWC = International Whaling Commission and the resumption of commercial whaling in July for the first time in 31 years, a bipartisan parliamentarian has compiled a draft amendment to the law on research whaling.

The proposed amendment changes the objective of the law from “scientific research” to “sustainable use”.

And for the smooth implementation of the whaling industry, the government supports the securing of ships and crews, and the promotion of the use of whales in school lunches to pass on the food culture.

In addition, the whaling industry is based on international law and is carried out within the range of capacities that can be calculated based on scientific grounds.

A bipartisan parliamentarian will submit these amendments to the House of Councilors during the month, aiming to enact the current parliament.
