Now there is a women's shelter, a girls' shelter, a legal shelter and an aunt's shelter in the same organization in Luleå municipality. And Chairman Kirsi Lagerdahl thinks the call is now complete.

- We have covered the women in Luleå at all ages and the need is great, she says.

Social pressure

The women's shelter receives about 200 new applications every year, but only two to three come from women who are over 65.

- In this generation, there is a lot of shame and guilt and a social pressure from relatives like children and grandchildren.

- Grandpa doesn't beat grandma and grandma and grandpa should live together, many think, says Kirsi Lagerdahl.

Tantjouren wants to help older and violent women to get away from the violence and educate staff at social security homes and in the home service and also relatives.

- Grandma should not be beaten and it is important to remember that the violence does not pause just because you get older. It goes on with life, she says.

"Great darkness"

It is about counteracting physical violence, economic violence and neglect against older women.

- We want to educate others in society so that they can see this problem. There is a large dark figure and more people should respond that this is actually going on and take it seriously, says Kirsi Lagerdahl.
