US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Saturday that Iran was using what he called its "terrorist agent, represented by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, to strike our great ally Israel."

Pompeo said in a tweet through his official account on Twitter that we must continue to pressure Iran until it negotiates a comprehensive agreement to ensure its support for "terrorist" groups, saying that Tehran does not want peace in the region.

In response to Pompeo's tweet, Islamic Jihad spokesman Musab al-Barim told Anatolia that the movement was working in Palestine to defend it and its people and holy sites from the ongoing Israeli aggression over the past decades.

Al-Buraim added that America is a "sponsor and exporter of terrorism in the world" and that the Jihad movement stands in the face of the occupation, which always starts with aggression against the people and holy sites.

The Israeli army announced that a large number of rockets were fired from Gaza, after the death of Islamic Jihad leader Bahaa Abu al-Atta following a raid on the Gaza Strip last Tuesday.

A ceasefire was announced on Thursday morning, two days after the operation that left 34 martyrs - including eight children and three women - and wounded 111 others.
