16 November 2019An Atlantic perturbation is affecting Italy with conditions of general bad weather and widespread rainfall, including thunderstorms, on the central-northern regions, in extension to the southern ones. The bad weather phase will also be accompanied by a substantial reinforcement of the southern winds.

Based on the available forecasts, the Civil Protection Department has issued a further warning of adverse weather conditions that extends those released in the previous days.

From early morning today, Saturday 16 November, widespread rainfall will persist, including showers or showers, on Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia and, from the afternoon, on Tuscany, Umbria, Lazio, Abruzzo and Molise. From the early hours of tomorrow, moreover, strong winds or storms are expected from the southern quadrants over Campania, Puglia, Basilicata and Calabria; from the afternoon southern strong winds will persist on Sicily, with possible storms on the exposed coasts. On the basis of the phenomena envisaged, a red alert on central-northern Veneto and an orange alert on the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, on some sectors of the Veneto, on the western sector of Friuli Venezia Giulia, on central-southern Lazio, on the western side of Abruzzo, on Umbria, on part of Molise.

Also assessed as a yellow alert on the Autonomous Province of Trento, on the remaining sectors of the Veneto, on the eastern side of Friuli Venezia Giulia, on Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Marche, on the remaining territories of Lazio, Abruzzo and Molise, on north-western Campania , on the south-eastern sector of Calabria and on north-eastern Sicily.

The Brenner railway line is still interrupted at the height of Bolzano due to a landslide, a replacement bus service was established between the Bolzano station and the Brunico station. Numerous valleys are closed, such as Val Gardena, Val Badia, Val d'Ega, Val Senales, Val Martello. There are a total of 70 roads closed for security reasons.

Last night around 7.40 a landslide of mud and trees, caused by the heavy rains of the day, fell on the tracks about 500 meters south of Bolzano station at Viale Trento in the area of ​​the 'Virgolo', forcing the interruption of both the Brenner - Verona line but also the Bolzano - Merano line.
