It is reported by the US Geological Survey (USGS).

The epicenter of the elements was located 176 km southeast of the city of Katsuura (Chiba Prefecture).

The hearth lay at a depth of 10 km.

Earlier it was reported that seismologists recorded an earthquake of magnitude 7.4 off the coast of Indonesia.
