In Venice, fear is back. Friday, just before mid-day, high tide reached a peak of 1.55 m. The historic center was again paralyzed underwater, after the dramatic aqua alta of November 13 which reached 1.87 m. After the receding waters, the City of the Doges has found a little life. But according to the weather forecast, it could be hit by new weather between Saturday night and Sunday.

Venice is a city in pain, where there is a race against time to evacuate businesses, monuments, and homes, salt water that is extremely corrosive.

On Friday, St. Mark's Square was so flooded that the basilica seemed to float on a huge greyish lake. Since the last few hours, after the tide receded, the situation has improved. But it remains precarious.

For the Venetians, the moral suffering is as dramatic as the economic damage and injuries inflicted on the heritage of the Serenissima. Since the catastrophic high tide of November 13, there is a parade of members of the government who promises not to abandon the City of the Doges.

A special law of funding to support Venice will be adopted before the end of November, announced the Minister of Culture, Dario Franceschini, who speaks himself of disaster, after visiting some of the 50 Venetian churches, very damaged.
