Spanish footballers will begin an indefinite strike on Saturday to denounce the freeze on wage negotiations and the creation of a collective agreement, the Spanish Football Association (AFE) said on Friday.

"After exhausting all possible avenues, the players voted in favor of an unlimited strike every Saturday and Sunday of the match, starting next weekend, November 16-17," said the union via communicated.

"The women footballers want a convention that would regulate their working conditions, with, among other things, the introduction of minimum wages, dignified working hours, the possibility of reconciling professional life, family life and maternity, regulated vacations, etc. ", the statement said.

The discussions, which have lasted for more than a year between the AFE and the Association of Women's Football Clubs (ACFF), block especially on the salary component of the players.

The women footballers require a minimum wage of 16,000 euros per year, with part-time contracts at three-quarters minimum time (which would amount to a minimum balance of 12,000 euros per year).

The clubs offer half-time contracts and offer only salaries of 8,000 euros per year. The ACFF considers that the most modest teams can not afford to meet the demands of the players.

The strike will begin Saturday and will affect the eight meetings scheduled for the 9th day of the Spanish women's football championship.
