SVT Nyheter Öst has in several articles and reports stated that more and more young adults with a disability lose their activity allowance - or are denied sickness benefit when they reach the age of 30.

There has been a sharp increase between 2016 and 2018, although neither the law nor the practice has changed. It shows figures that the Swedish Social Insurance Agency has now produced for SVT.

Does not report

But these are figures that Försäkringskassan has not previously reported, despite SVT News Öst examining this issue already in February this year and despite the Government having asked questions about this particular group.

"We no longer publish statistics for rejection of the activity allowance because we are investigating how we can produce better statistics in the area, " the Swedish Social Insurance Agency replied in an e-mail to SVT Nyheter Öst in November 2018.

"Sensitive"

Since then, we have repeatedly asked for these statistics - but received the answer that it is not possible to obtain.

"Obviously, there must be statistics, but it's sensitive," says Elisabeth Ingvarsson, who is the legal representative for FUB, an association of interest for young and adults with developmental disabilities.

These figures are not reported in the Swedish Social Insurance Agency's annual report for 2018. They are also not reported in the report that the Swedish Social Insurance Agency sent to the Government this summer.

SVT has to pay

In September this year, Försäkringskassan responded that SVT Nyheter Öst can know how many who lost the activity allowance - if we pay for a special driving.

- There may not be ready-made statistics reports prepared, but we need to make special runs for it, says Ingeborg Watz Forslund, who is area manager at the Social Insurance Office of the Disability Department.

But to me, does it sound a little strange that you haven't done such a run before?

- Yes, but we can do that at any time

But why haven't you done it when it's been so attentive?

- Yeah ... I don't know. I want to come back again.

The Swedish Social Insurance Agency's press contact will later return in an e-mail with the explanation:
“When you submitted a request for rejection statistics in December 2018, we unfortunately had an ongoing development project. Therefore, at that time we did not have the opportunity to produce the information you requested. When the development project was complete, however, we have sent you statistics data during the autumn this year. "
