The former president of Bolivia Evo Morales suggested on Wednesday the presence of former leaders such as the Uruguayan José Mujica (2010-2015) and the Spanish José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero (2004-2011) as mediators between the parties to help "the pacification of Bolivia ".

This was stated by Morales in statements to the National Broadcasting of Uruguay, in which he defended his administration and assured that, legally, he is still president of his country since Parliament has not yet formalized his resignation.

Morales's words came hours after his first press conference from Mexico, where he lives since Tuesday on condition of asylum, after resigning from the Presidency last Sunday.

"It is important the presence of any agency, except the OAS" and personalities such as Mujica, Zapatero, former presidents who "would encourage dialogue ," Morales said.

In this sense, the politician explained that he does not have to call these former presidents to invite them to dialogue, but rather suggests that the social forces and the parties that have lost the elections agree to bring mediators who favor conversations

"The right continues to mistreat, intimidate, burn family homes, looting, assaulting the homes ... however, until Sunday before our resignation there were no deaths, the next day two or three dead. You can not understand how the Police and the Armed Forces with opponents decide to kill the Bolivian people, "he said.

In this regard, he considered that it is time to "stop the massacre of the people" and that the country be pacified and noted that the proclamation of Jeanine Áñez as interim president of Bolivia is "illegal and unconstitutional . "

"This confirms the coup d'etat," he added.

Finally, he stressed that he does not regret anything since he won the first round elections for the fourth time in a row.

Morales confirmed his resignation to the Presidency this Sunday after almost 14 years in power, in a video from somewhere undetermined, after having cascaded most of his Government before the wave of protests in recent weeks.

When he announced his resignation Morales regretted a "civic coup" and that the police had retreated to their barracks in recent days.
