- There are several countries who think that we should take home the different citizens, but we do not believe that. They will not receive any consular assistance from Sweden because they went despite the advice, says Ann Linde (S).

She believes that Swedes who have joined IS should be judged on the spot.

- We believe that they should be sentenced where the crime was committed, says Ann Linde.

During the meeting, to which some 30 foreign ministers were invited, the United States assured them that they will continue to be part of the military alliance. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the withdrawal in northeastern Syria is more about regrouping.

"Think they've backed off"

- The important thing about this meeting was that the United States said that they will continue to be active in the coalition against Isil, or Daesh. The fight is not over, says Ann Linde (S) to SVT News.

She uses the names Isil and Daesh for IS.

When asked whether she thinks the US government has really fundamentally changed its attitude, Linde replies:

- I think they have backed down, partly because they discovered what the consequences were and partly because the international reaction became quite sharp.

The United States was criticized

It was in early October that the White House announced that US troops would leave northeastern Syria, where they had long worked closely with the Kurdish-led SDF forces to drive away IS.

Shortly thereafter, Turkey launched a major offensive against the Kurdish-controlled areas, with the help of Turkish-backed Syrian rebel groups.

It has led many to strongly criticize the United States for having failed the SDF forces and for putting the victories against IS in the area at stake.
