"I am a great admirer of the president" was one of many tributes that Trump poured over Erdogan during the joint press conference.

Trump praised their personal friendship. Like the ceasefire that the US and Turkey agreed after Turkey's military offensive in northern Syria, despite the fact that the fighting continues to rage on the ground.

The meeting, which was overshadowed by the interrogations, did not produce any concrete results in the expected core issues between the United States and Turkey.

"Empty fools"

Trump had hoped to get Turkey back from the purchase of the Russian missile defense system S-400. Erdogan, in turn, hoped for progress in the process of having Fethullah Gülen extradited, the leader of the religious network that Turkey accuses of being behind the coup attempt in 2016.

But neither Trump nor Erdogan had anything concrete to show off the negotiating table, only empty chatter about discussions going on and hopes of finding a solution. The only exception was Trump's clear support for Erdogan on the issue of returning IS prisoners to Europe.

However, the locked positions in the matter were overwhelmed by the gentle grimacing gentlemen between them. It is probably worth so much considering that the US and Turkey's collision course has become increasingly serious.

Stressed relationship

Turkey has approached Russia in defense cooperation, which should be punished with sanctions under US law. The US House of Commons recently acknowledged the Armenian genocide, which is perceived as a disaster in Turkey.

Turkey's war in northern Syria has generated strong reactions in the United States, even from Trump's own party comrades.

Some argue that the "bromance" between Trump and Erdogan is the only thing that is preventing the Turkey-US alliance from completely breaking down.

Bromance stronger than ever

If that is true, you can in any case say that the "bromance" stands out stronger than ever.

It became painfully clear during question time, when Erdogan was faced with the unusual opportunity of having to answer a critical question, an impossibility at home in Turkey.
