Vlasov spoke about the two most common types of cyber fraud associated with the theft of banking data.

“There is a technical fraud that has been known for a long time and that it has been successfully combated - phishing (a type of fraud whose purpose is to steal user identities. - RT ) and everything else ... The second type of fraud is associated with the inaccurate use of their cards by the users themselves, when PIN codes are stored ... (in an insecure place. - RT ). Hackers or just thieves seize this data from citizens and begin to use their cards. Be careful: on all sites of all major banks it is written that this should never be done, ”the expert explained.

According to him, the greatest threat is fraud with the help of social engineering, which consists in influencing the psychology of banking users.

“The most dangerous type of fraud, which has especially intensified in the last year, is associated with methods of social engineering, when, for example, you are caught and they say that an unauthorized transaction has occurred from your card. Trusting citizens begin to send SMS, which comes to them with passwords, and they are charged money from the card, ”adds Vlasov.

He clarified that the danger lies in the fact that fraudsters, as a rule, “catch by surprise” and, having reliable information about the operations performed by users, force them to give their data.

“It is for this type of fraud that the biggest recommendation is to not tell anyone, even if they tell you a bunch of completely reliable information about your transactions, hang up, call the bank back at the number that you always call, and then do some actions, ”the expert recommended.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced an increase in the number of crimes using payment cards.
