- We are very pleased with the decision, the court has gone completely on our line, says Ida Nyström, process counsel at the Consumer Agency.

In September, the Consumer Ombudsman (KO) sent the Telefonihuset, formerly called the Mobile group, to the Patent and Market Court. The company has long been criticized for misleading marketing of mobile-related products by telephone.

"Consumers have been tricked"

- You have not been clear enough but said that things are free even though they are not, you have sent invoices that have no basis and you have been unclear with whom you cooperate with and that consumers have been deceived, explains KO Daniel Karfs regarding the background to the mood.

One of those affected who contacted SVT's consumer editorial Plus is Thomas Karlsson in Köping, who received a claim of almost SEK 30,000 for a service which he believes he has not ordered.

Temporary prohibition and penalty for violation

In anticipation of the final judgment, the court made a temporary decision on November 7, which means that Telefonihuset and the company's CEO are immediately prohibited from using the criticized sales methods. Any violations will result in a penalty fee of SEK 1 million for the company, and half a million SEK for Telefonihuset's CEO.

The Telephony House writes in its opinion to the court that one is aware that occasional violations have occurred, but writes that these have not been made consciously or systematically. It is also written that measures have been taken to correct the problems.

Hundreds of cases have been reported to the police

Many of the affected consumers have been customers of the mobile operator Tre, who reports that police reported hundreds of scams that Telefonihuset is suspected of exposing their customers to. Telefonihuset has previously worked as a subcontractor for Tre, but the collaboration was broken in October 2018.
