Privacy: Facebook App launched independently iPhone camera

TIME ONLINE | News, backgrounds and debates

Menlo Park (dpa) - The latest version of the Facebook App on iPhones has in some situations started the camera itself - the online network speaks of a programming error.

"We have no evidence that this has uploaded photos or videos," wrote Facebook manager Guy Rosen on Twitter. The error will open the camera when the user taps a photo. He had been accidentally introduced while trying to fix another problem.

The unusual behavior of the Facebook app was noticed by several users who also informed the online network. A corrected version of the app should be submitted to Apple immediately, wrote Rosen. For Facebook, the error comes at an inopportune time after the data scandals of the past years.
