Snow in the Dolomites (Ansa)

Share

November 13, 2019The copious snowfall was not long in coming and in the night the white flakes fell even up to 500 meters. In South Tyrol the winter has arrived decidedly early enough to induce some ski areas to open the season in advance compared to the set November 30th. The greatest snowfall has affected the eastern part of the northernmost province of Italy.

Up to 40 centimeters of snow fell on the hills of the Val Pusteria , in the Dolomites and in the Sciliar area. It snows between the village of Campodazzo - a village north of Bolzano - up to Kufstein in Austria on the border with Germany (Bavaria).

Especially on the Austrian motorways between the Brenner Pass and Innsbruck the lanes are covered with snow and in the north towards the Brenner a column of heavy vehicles has formed. On the Italian stretch of the motorway leading to the Brenner the snow-clearing means are in action. The interventions of the South Tyrolean fire brigade for trees crashing on the road, cars exiting the road cause the snow, since last night they have been as many as 150 especially in the areas of Bolzano, Val d'Isarco and Val Pusteria.

Incessant rain in the valley, in Bolzano and Trento, the temperature of the first hours of the day is 4 degrees. On mountain roads, winter equipment ( snow tires and chains ) is required. For safety reasons, several Dolomite passes have been closed, Gardena, Sella, Valparola, Falzarego and Pordoi, in addition to Giovo, Pennes and Erbe (reachable from Val Badia). The Tonale Pass is closed in Trentino. Winter closure for the Stelvio, Rombo and Stalle passes.
