“Recently, various ideas have been voiced on reforming the UN, on replacing it with another form of world integration. Kyrgyzstan considers it necessary to increase the effectiveness and influence of this universal international organization through the implementation of new reforms, ”Jeenbekova quotes TASS.

According to him, the world is going through an “era of global changes”, and in the conditions of the formation of its multipolarity, which “is accompanied by contradictions and is characterized by instability and turbulence,” no state will be able to effectively counter modern challenges and threats with its own forces.

Jeenbekov noted that in this situation, "multilateral diplomacy has become an uncontested option" to solve global problems.

“Therefore, we see the UN as a platform in which small states are actively involved in discussions and the development of solutions to pressing issues,” he stressed.

Jeenbekov also added that Kyrgyzstan will remain a “reliable partner” of the organization and cooperation with it is a priority for the development of the country in a peaceful, safe, sustainable atmosphere.

“We will continue to develop constructive relationships,” he emphasized, recalling the implementation by Kyrgyzstan with “active support” of the UN of “multifaceted reforms”, the key areas of which are noted in the National Strategy for Sustainable Development of the country.

Earlier, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe advocated reform of the UN Security Council.

In June 2018, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for reform of the UN Security Council, saying that “the fate of the world community cannot be in the hands of the five permanent members of the Security Council,” and all states of the world should have the right to participate in its work.

Later, Russia and India reaffirmed the need to reform the body in order to “better reflect the modern world order and be more effective in countering emerging global challenges.”

In the spring, political scientist, head of the Center for the Settlement of Social Conflicts Oleg Ivanov, in an interview with the PolitExpert publication, assessed the situation surrounding a possible UN reform.
