- I am embarrassed and despairing that we have not come further in our preventive work, says Sigrun Sigurdsson.

She does not know 15-year-old Jafar Mohammad Ibrahim who was shot dead on Saturday in Malmö when another 15-year-old was seriously injured.

But she is not surprised by the recent events in Malmö with shootings and murders among young people and knew nine young men who were murdered.

- What they have in common is that they do not feel that they have any hope or faith in the future. They do not believe that they have a chance to get a job interview because of their name or address, or if they occur for some minor crime in the load register. That's how they experience it, and then they choose to live in this gang environment.

But all young people do not shoot or get shot, what is it that determines?

- Drugs, I would say. Nobody takes a gun in their hand and shoots anyone without taking drugs. Or they will sink so far into the crime that it will be impossible to get rid of them, says Sigrun Sigurdsson.

But what can society then do to "recruit" them - before the gang does?

- We have to be there and give hope and be good role models who can show the right path. For example, show that there are shorter vocational training courses that actually provide a really well-paid job, such as an electrician, a nurse or a construction worker.
