Faced with increasing jihadist pressure, the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa), which are undergoing numerous attacks, are changing tactics: they leave the most distant and most exposed positions to regroup in stronger squares.

The decision of the Malian army has already been applied to three of its isolated positions near the border of Niger and Burkina Faso. There is no more army camp in the localities of Anderamboukane, Indelimane and Labbézanga. On social networks, we even saw images of children having fun on the spot now without soldiers. Although officially, there is no question of abandoning the population, some Malians ask themselves the same question: " the army party, which now protects us against terrorists, and criminals? ".

At the Malian Ministry of Defense, it is said that the people will always be protected. Mobile units will be very active in the field, a manager told RFI. But if the Malian troops change their strategy, it is clear that the posture in which they were on the ground posed a problem.

The attackers lead an asymmetrical war with often the same mode of operation: throwing shells, laying mines and attacking camps in several positions. It could not continue. Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta has asked his army to change its position: the results are now awaited.

In this operational choice, other units will also be involved. This decision is part of the implementation of a new concept of operation that aims to better adapt the strategy to the threat of terrorists and other narcotics traffickers. pic.twitter.com/sM0eTlVFSk
