Axel Andersson believes that the cause of more threats and hatred is about the insecurity in society which he believes gives imprints also within the university, and that mental illness is increasing he has noted among the students.

- I have met students who have told them that they felt threatened, that they have been threatened by other students and we do everything we can to make the students feel safe on campus.

How common is this?

- It is difficult to give an exact answer to that. But my picture is that it has become more common.

He believes that the Student Union lacks sufficient knowledge to deal with the threats.

- We do not have the routines to deal with these problems in order to provide support to those who are vulnerable, but also to those who expose others to threats. Those who express their ill-will must also get help, says Axel Andersson.

More security guards at the university

He has noted that there have been more security guards at the university but does not want more supervision. Instead, he hopes for more long-term solutions, to go to the bottom with why the threats are increasing as well as mental ill-health.

What can you do as president of a student union?

- We have a continuous dialogue with the City of Gothenburg because we see a gap between student health for high school students and students. Many people do not know where to turn when they are ill. I think many actors need to take a step forward on this issue because this is really an alarming issue.
