  • PP.Pablo Casado struggles to appear before the King after 10-N with more secure support than Pedro Sánchez

«Politics is the art of expectations management». This phrase, pronounced with some melancholy by one of the main political advisers of the national leadership of the PP, summed up the bittersweet feeling that took hold last night of the number 13 of Genoa Street . At the national headquarters of the popular they should be celebrating a remarkable comeback, but they had to digest, at the same time, the meteoric rise of Vox, which in 11 months has gone from representing the ultra right to becoming a direct rival of Pablo Casado by the hegemony in the block.

In the most uncertain elections in a long time, the PP won 87 seats, 21 more than the 66 it won in April. And he obtained 20.8% of the votes. That is, four points more than 16.7% in April, but far from the "technical tie" that Pablo Casado sold last Friday. The 110 deputies that the popular candidate predicted for himself this week were in a mere desideratum , as happened in April.

Not even adding the two deputies of Navarra Suma comes the PP to the level of 90 seats, from which the leaders of Genoa recognized that they were conformed. On November 3, Casado faced the following question in this newspaper: Do you sign out to get 90 deputies? "Of course not. We went out to win and we are in a technical tie ».

Having scrutinized 99.8%, the PP had recovered the hegemony of the right, capitalizing on an important part of the collapse of Citizens, but without agglutinating the electorate selected to starboard. The popular lost the conservative leadership against Vox in Murcia , where those of Santiago Abascal won the elections with 11,000 votes of difference over the PP, although with the same deputies (three). The same occurs in provinces where Vox exceeds the PP in number of votes, but ties in seats: Almería (two), Cádiz (two), Huelva (one) and Sevilla (two),

One of the great moles of the election night for the popular was the Basque Country, where it was unpublished again. He did not get the seat of Álava or that of Vizcaya, which he had. In fact, if in April he stayed at 340 votes of Bildu in the Alava district, yesterday the gap increased to 2,000 votes. This is a failure without palliative for Casado in an autonomy in which its leader, Alfonso Alonso, has tried a "strong" turn to avoid the flight of votes to the PNV. A third change that has proved sterile.

And in Catalonia the PP won the second seat for Barcelona, for the former government delegate in the María de los Llanos de Luna region, but the deputy for Tarragona did not add that he thought he had shot. In fact, in that province those of Casado were also below Vox.

On the other hand, the PP was the first force in Cantabria, Castilla y León, Melilla, Navarra (in coalition with UPN and Citizens) and Galicia. In the feud of Alberto Núñez Feijóo the popular recovered the leadership after increasing by 15,500 votes, but, above all, because the PSOE lost 71,200.

In spite of everything, in Genoa they extracted a positive balance: «The PP is the only way of solution to Sánchez. Married has managed to lift the party and lead him to improve more than 20 seats in a comeback that nobody thought possible, ”said sources from Genoa. «Married is the undisputed leader of the center right. And he runs a stronger PP, which has shown that it is synonymous with unlocking, ”they added. «The Spaniards reward the seriousness, the firmness, the sense of Casado State», they summed up, without making self-criticism for setting the bar of expectations too high

Another fact that stands out in Genoa is that the PP is the party that has won the most parliamentarians, if the Senate is taken into account, where it raises 26 seats. But in the end, the comment that best summed up last night the bittersweet taste that took over Genoa was pronounced by the same advisor who warned of the poor management of expectations: "We shouldn't have said we were going to get 100".
