The well-known Russian historian, Oleg Sokolov, a professor at the University of St. Petersburg and an expert on Napoleon, confessed today to the murder of his partner and dex student, 24-year-old Anastasia Echtchenko. The Russian media report it.

The professor, who for his studies in the past was awarded the Legion of Honor in France, was arrested yesterday after being rescued by rescuers in the river Moika, in St. Petersburg, with a backpack containing the woman's arms. According to Russian media, Sokolov had fallen into the water, dressed as Napoleon, in an attempt to make the young woman's remains disappear in the river. The police then found the rest of the victim's body in the man's apartment.

The 63-year-old historian was then hospitalized for hypothermia, but today he was transferred to a police station for interrogation. His lawyer, Alexander Pochuev, the local media added, reported that Sokolov had signed a guilty plea.

The teacher was also a member of the ISSEP scientific council, the political school of the former French deputy Marion Maréchal (nephew of Marine Le Pen) in Lyon, an "immediately revoked" assignment. In front of his curriculum, "we could not imagine that he could commit this hateful act", the Institute commented in a statement, "expressing its condolences and its support to the victim's family".
