November 10, 2019After weeks of protests, which were joined by some police departments, Bolivia's President Evo Morales gives in and announces the call for new presidential elections, after the disputed vote of October 20.

"New elections will allow the Bolivian people to democratically elect new authorities," Morales said at a press conference in El Alto, near La Paz, adding that he also wanted to change the members of the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE).

Finally, Morales stated that "in the next few hours" Parliament, in agreement with all political forces, will establish the procedures to renew the membership of the TSE.

Shortly before its announcement, the Organization of American States (Osa) had asked in a statement to "cancel" the first round of the presidential elections "due to the seriousness of the complaints and the analyzes related to the electoral process" and to call a new consultation as soon as there will be "new guarantees for its celebration", including a new electoral body.

The controversial October elections had confirmed him for the fourth time president in the first round thanks to a result - disputed at home and questioned by the OAS - that saw him precede by more than 10% of the votes his main opponent, the centrist Carlos Mesa.
