Two Dutch men aged 33 and 39 have died in the Austrian state of Tyrol due to an avalanche, the Austrian police confirmed.
The two were, according to the Austrian news medium ORF, skiing with one other Dutchman outside the slopes at around noon in the Sölden ski area.
A 54-year-old man managed to escape, but the others were dragged down two hundred meters by the avalanche. It was buried under a layer of snow between two and a half and three meters deep. Three helicopters were deployed during the rescue campaign.
Last Friday the local authorities already warned of possible avalanche danger; the burden of a single winter sportsman might be enough to cause an avalanche.
