Medical leasing has for many years leased staff to all Swedish county councils and a number of municipalities. During the autumn, the county council, now called regions, was reached by information about both the current eco-criminal case and other, older judgments against the owner.

The information has meant that several of the county councils have started in-depth reviews of the company, in order to decide whether the judgments affect continued cooperation.

- Uppsala enters into agreements only with serious companies that comply with legislation and procured contracts, states Petter Karlsson, purchasing manager at Uppsala.

- It is totally unacceptable, and we look very seriously at this and that is why we are investigating this. We ask for any judgments that exist and we will do a comprehensive review again. We did a check at the tender, says regional lawyer Kristine Nilsson Wieslander at Uppsala Region.

Why haven't you discovered this before?

- We have not checked that they do not have criminal activities, however, they have stated that they do not have it.

Awaiting the court's verdict

Four northern regions are also investigating what to do. Norrbotten, Västerbotten, Västernorrland and Jämtland Härjedalen have a joint agreement with Läkarleasing.

"Due to information received, discussions are held between the lawyers from each region on how the case is to be handled and what alternatives are possible to implement," writes Lena Larsson, purchasing manager for Jämtland Härjedalen to SVT.

Medical leasing has emphasized that the owner is neither a member of the management nor the board. At the same time, he is registered with the Swedish Companies Registration Office as the company's "real principal", which means that he "ultimately owns or controls" the company.

From Västernorrland, Purchasing Manager Sara Hedlund writes that it is “unclear if it is possible to exclude a supplier as a result of an 'inactive representative' being convicted of eco crime. We are investigating whether there is support in the law to cancel / exclude a supplier because of this, and if there is anything we can do before there is a judgment that has gained legal force ”.

Most regions state for SVT News that they are awaiting the development and are awaiting a judgment in the High Court before deciding on any possible action.

"Comprehensive reorganization"

Medical Leasing's Chairman of the Board Roger Jakobsson emphasizes in a comment that Medical Leasing is not a party to the eco-criminal case, and reiterates that the owner has no active role in the company today.

"The event that underpins the target happened almost three years ago and the company has subsequently undertaken a comprehensive reorganization of the finance department and initiated a well-functioning collaboration with an external authorized accounting firm, which the company's two most recent annual reports confirm."

Jakobsson states that the company's relations with the regions are good.

"The fact that a few of our customers carry out reviews we see as something positive and we make sure to be available and accommodating in the dialogue to straighten out their possible question marks."
