Paris Saint-Germain maintained its lead in the French Handball Championship by sweeping Aix 36-23 Saturday in Coubertin in a staggering match of the 8th day.

The Parisians, with their flawless record of eight wins in eight days, are four points ahead of Montpellier and six on a quartet composed of Toulouse, Nimes, Aix and Nantes.

They will receive Thursday the Montpellier in a shock that could allow them to take an option on the title, barely spent one third of the season. In case of victory, PSG would have a margin of six points, the equivalent of three successes, on the MHB.

Faced with Aix, who remained on a defeat at home against Saint-Raphaël after a very convincing start to the season and had not played for three weeks because of the international truce, the suspense lasted only a quarter time.

Led 10 to 8, the Parisians gave a violent thrust that left their rival on the spot (6-0 first then 9-1 straddling the two halves). Jérôme Fernandez's players have never been able to recover.

"We did a little work on them, but we must not reiterate this kind of start of the game because we could pay," commented Captain Luka Karabatic at the microphone of BeinSports.

Norway's Sander Sagosen was the top Paris scorer with six goals, ahead of Nedim Remili and Luka Karabatic (5 goals). Baptiste Bonnefond scored eight times for Aix.
