According to TASS, 18 countries supported this proposal, 69 voted against, 72 abstained.

It is noted that in the document, Russia proposed to request from the UN Secretary General, if there is no progress, by April 1, 2020, a report on alternative venues for the 2020 First Committee session, including Geneva or Vienna, as well as possible consequences for the organization’s budget.

It was also suggested that “if visa problems are not resolved in a reasonable and limited period of time, the General Assembly will consider convening a session of the First Committee of 2020 in Geneva or Vienna.”

In September, a number of members of the Russian delegation did not receive a US visa to participate in the UN General Assembly in New York.

The Federation Council and the State Duma called for consideration of the possible transfer of UN headquarters from the United States.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov urged to think about moving international events from the United States.
