According to the man who told us about the plans for the police, he was asked to deceive his friend, who would be shot dead. As a payment he would receive a gun, protective vests and SEK 20,000. He would also be helped to avenge a murder of a family member.
But the man chose to warn his friend instead - and after the friend was murdered, he told the police what he knew.
- Many people do not choose to talk. But today there is a good rumor that I was there and warned him and I know that people trust me when I say I really wanted to help him, says the man in a questioning.
Four people have been indicted for involvement in the murder. One of them, a 28-year-old man, is identified as the one who took the job of murdering the 23-year-old for a fee of € 50,000. According to the prosecutor, he has then hired the three other defendants, as well as another unknown shooter, to carry out the murder.
Three of the defendants remain in custody after the trial, but one of the four men, who, according to the prosecutor, must have been one of the shooters, was released on pending trial.
"Several families have been hit very hard"Keeping criminals quiet is one of the major challenges when it comes to crime linked to gang crime. It is not uncommon for even those hit by shots to refuse to tell anyone who was holding the gun.
- The culture of silence among criminals is very widespread and it has not changed significantly. However, the fatigue among criminals is great. Several families have been hit very hard with several in a family or close friends who have been murdered, which creates an incentive to tell. Sometimes the family also pressures them to tell and that is an important support for the police, says Petra Stenkula.
Want Crown witnesses or anonymous witnessesIn several murder investigations that went to trial in Malmö during the year, people testified.
In addition to the assassination of Ramel's road in March 2017, it is among other things a shooting death at Nydala in Malmö last summer.
A 24-year-old man was shot to death, but his friend who survived the shooting pointed out the shooters to police. A man was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder.
Petra Stenkula says it is very unusual for witnesses to be threatened and that the police offer good protection, but she wants to see measures to get more people to talk.
- We believe a powerful package is needed where we can offer those who testify. We have wanted Crown witnesses or anonymous witnesses.
The verdict is expected at 11am on Thursday.
