The arrested are part of a criminal group that is suspected of a number of car thefts in Sweden, where the cars were later transported to Poland to be remodeled or taken apart for sale in parts. Above all, the thieves appear to have focused on cars of the Mazda and Toyota brands.

The arrests took place earlier this week both in Sweden and in Poland, but all the detainees are Polish citizens. Two people had European arrest warrants issued against them. They were arrested in Åstorp and Malmö.

"Takes a little time"

Right now, a process is underway to release these to Poland.

- It takes some time to get them to leave. They are in custody and it may well be a negotiation on the issue of surrender next week, says Stefan Gradler at the National Agency for International and Organized Crime.

Cars in fittings

A third person was arrested in the Ängelholm district in connection with the operation suspected of car theft and preparation for car theft. However, he has not been asked to be extradited to Poland.

Five cars must have been seized in connection with the operation, as well as false chassis number decals, Swedish registration plates, electronic equipment for car thefts, disturbance equipment for mobile phones and similar tools.

The case is being investigated by the Polish police.
