One of the changes that the Traffic Committee chairman Jens Holm (V) wants to see is that the electricity park bikes are classified as a permit-required activity:

- Then there is also the opportunity for local politicians to decide where the vehicles may be placed somewhere and how fast they can drive, he says.

Evokes emotions

Electric scooters spark debate and accidents involving electric scooters are increasing. From the turn of the year to the end of August, 241 accidents have been recorded in which the injured were forced to visit an emergency hospital, including a fatal accident. The number of accidents is expected to be more because the electric scooter cycle does not have its own accident code.

- The problem arises when these vehicles are placed somewhere. They are deployed in public traffic without any thought of safety and how this should work with other traffic, says Jens Holm.

The rules are subject to change

Today, the electric scooter bike is classified as a bicycle, which means that you do not need a helmet, and that you can go on pedestrian walkways at walking speed.

Jens Holm wants the electric scooter bike to have a different classification, and now a change can be underway. The Swedish Transport Agency is investigating what the rules should look like to use single-person vehicles. These are, for example, traffic rules, design rules and rules of procedure.

The first of three interim reports is expected to come at the end of March next year. But in order for the electric scooter cycle to have a different classification, Jens believes that a legislative change is probably required.

- We need to arrange these vehicles for next summer, says Jens.
