Peskov answered the question whether Kelin’s appointment is connected with an active election campaign in Britain. He said that the appointment of the heads of embassies is never connected with the domestic political agenda of the states where they are appointed.

“This is one of our star diplomats, brilliant diplomats, and, like any ambassador of any state, his main task is to contribute to the development of relations between his country and the host country,” the representative of the Kremlin said.

He added that this is not an easy task for the Russian ambassador to Britain.

Previously, Putin appointed Andrei Kelin as Russian Ambassador to the UK.
