A unanimous municipal council has agreed to the Moderates' motion to enter into a collaboration with the women's newspaper in Karlskrona, which BLT has previously reported on. A decision will be made in the municipal council in two weeks.

It is crucial that the municipality and civil society work together to combat violence against women, says Camilla Brunsberg, group leader for the Moderates in Karlskrona.

- The vulnerability among women is increasing and it is important that we capture the strong forces that exist in society, she says.

Long-term agreement

Karlskrona Municipality today enters with ten crowns per inhabitant, about SEK 670,000 annually, to the women's shelter, but the proposal would mean that a more long-term agreement is covered. How big the financial support will be, the municipality cannot answer, but a long-term agreement would be a step in increasing the financial security of women's shelters.

Insufficient resources

Ulrika Bodin, head of operations at the women's newspaper in Karlskrona, welcomes the proposal.

- Collaboration is important. If we receive increased grants, we can ensure that more women and children receive the protection and support they are entitled to. At present, we do not have sufficient resources to utilize all the competence and knowledge we are on, ”she says.

Through increased cooperation, the women's team hopes to be able to employ more people and work more preventatively, with lectures in schools as part of the work.

- We really hope for this and think it is wonderful when the municipality takes its responsibility. It will also be confirmation that our work is important, ”says Ulrika Bodin.
