Professor Phillip Papillas said that dry skin is more than just an aesthetic problem, as it may portend health problems.

The German dermatologist explained that dry skin may indicate a skin disease such as psoriasis, neurodermatitis, eczema and allergies.

It may indicate diabetes, hypothyroidism, kidney dysfunction, gastrointestinal diseases such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, gastric mucositis or malnutrition.

Other causes of dry skin include aging, genetic predisposition, or taking certain medications such as birth control pills, heart medications, rheumatism, and fat metabolic disorders.

In any case, consult a doctor if the skin continues to dry for a long time, with the appearance of other symptoms such as pimples and severe itching, to determine the real reason behind the dryness and undergo proper treatment.
