In a context of tougher sanctions and, as every year for 27 years, Cuba presents a draft resolution for the lifting of the US embargo. The majority of UN member countries generally vote this resolution, with little effect.

" Every Cuban, wherever he is in the world, is suffering the consequences of the US blockade ," according to the Cuban Foreign Minister. Bruno Rodriguez will present on Wednesday, and like every year for 27 years, a resolution on the need to lift the " economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States ."

" The accumulated damages caused by the blockade for 60 years reach $ 922.630 billion ," he says. Between April 2018 and March 2019, Cuba estimates that the embargo has caused more than $ 4.3 billion in losses.

But this figure does not take into account the latest measures of the Trump administration that since last May stifles the economy of the island. A more aggressive policy than the minister Bruno Rodriguez explains for reasons électoralistes. " Governments are ephemeral, politics and the electoral context of Florida and the United States too. But people, including the North American people, have a long memory and history will severely judge those responsible, "he said.

Presented every year, the resolution demanding the end of the US embargo against Cuba, in force since 1962, was passed last year by 189 countries. Only the United States and Israel voted against.

President Diaz-Canel denounces pressures

Prior to this vote at the UN, Cuba was also denouncing US pressure on six Latin American countries to influence their vote, traditionally in favor of the Cuban resolution.

" As always, the empire (US, ed) has recourse to dirty and perverse practices ," tweeted Tuesday Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, referring to accusations of US pressure to reject this resolution.

US pressures to undermine support for blockade resolution are denounced. As usual, the empire resorts to dirty and perverse practices. # NoMásBloqueo #SomosCuba #SomosContinuidadhttps: //t.co/WutzT5AV9e
