End of the numerus clausus and the contest by MCQ, bridges ... At the beginning of the school year 2020, high school students wishing to become doctors, midwives, dentists or pharmacists will have the choice between several university courses, according to the new methods of access to the studies of published in the Official Journal on Tuesday.

Two decrees and a decree come to music the reform promised by Emmanuel Macron in September 2018 and outlined in the health law promulgated in late July to diversify the profiles of health students.

From the start of the school year in 2020, the first year of common health studies (Paces) and its chopper competition will be abolished, as will the numerus clausus, which limits the number of students admitted in the second year and whom the president described as "absurdity". "and" mess ", because of the tens of thousands of students left each year on the floor.

Instead, "all universities will set up new access to health studies after one, two or three years of higher education", each student can "submit his application for health studies twice", specifies the Ministry of Health in a statement.

The high school students will be able to move towards the licenses of letters, law, chemistry, economy ... with an option "access health" (L.AS). Or turn immediately to a specific path "health access" (PASS), with an option of another discipline (literature, law, languages ...).

The selection in health will be based on "the marks obtained" during the training and on "additional tests, oral or written" which may be dispensed to students with grades above a threshold set by the university.

These different routes will be specified by the faculties "on Parcoursup, from December 20", according to the Ministry of Health.

Instead of complying with a nationally determined numerus clausus, "the universities will be able, in connection with the regional health agencies and" according to the needs of the territories, "to define the number of students" accepted in the various fields.

In addition, for students admitted to Paces in September 2019, "transitional measures" are planned to give them the "opportunity" to repeat and guarantee "a specific quota of places in health training".

Some € 16 million will be spent from 2020 on the implementation of this reform, "in addition to funding under the law orientation and success of students".
