The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has terminated "with immediate effect" the agency contract it had with Lagardère Sports, said Tuesday the French group that "strongly contests" this decision he considers "illegal".

This contract, which extended until 2028, was linked to the "commercialization of the media rights and marketing of CAF tournaments", indicated the French group in its 2018 annual report.

CAF has announced its willingness to terminate this partnership at a meeting on Tuesday, he said in a statement.

"Lagardère strongly denies this decision of CAF that it considers illegal, abusive and unfounded," the group adds.

"Nothing can justify a termination of the contract," says Lagardère, pointing out that an ongoing investigation by the COMESA (Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa) Competition Commission "has not yet rendered a decision" .

Lagardère "calls on CAF to return to a reasonable position as soon as possible and to continue to honor its commitments".

For the French group, "it is incumbent on CAF to join Lagardère's efforts in the context of the current procedure, in order to allow the continuation of the contract, possibly adjusted according to discussions with the authorities".

Lagardère warns that "failing that, (she) would take any action to defend her rights" and "obtain full compensation for the harm she would suffer".
