05 November 2019There are two firefighters who died in the explosion of a building in Quargneto, in the province of Alessandria. While another was found alive, wounded in the leg but out of danger. The explosion, as reconstructed by the Carabinieri, would have occurred in an uninhabited portion of a farmhouse: in addition to the rescuers there would therefore be no other people involved. Firefighters are still at work in the rubble to search for missing persons.

The dynamics of the explosion is still not entirely clear. According to a first version there would have been a double explosion, while according to investigative sources the fire brigade would have intervened for a fire and once they arrived at the farm they would have been overwhelmed by the explosion. Quargneto is a town of just over a thousand inhabitants in the plain of Alessandria, on the border with the Monferrato hills. An agricultural area where there are numerous farmhouses.
