A dozen skaters found themselves on the ice at lunchtime on Monday, settling on Lake Nydala in Umeå. One of those who took the opportunity to enjoy a skate ride in the morning was Alexander Olsson. He also learned how treacherous the ice cream is when he suddenly went through it.

- I started on the north side, where the ice was thick and fine, but the lake is open in the middle, he says.

After a while, he went through the ice on the west side of the lake, both legs disappearing into the water. Alexander used his ice studs to pull away from the area with the fragile ice.

- It was the first time I went through, a useful experience, he says.

In addition to ice studs, he carried a backpack with a so-called dry bag, a bag that protects clothes from moisture. A quick change later he was warm again. That he went through the ice is not a deterrent.

- It will be more skiing, it was not as dangerous as I had imagined.
