October 14, 2014 Three Anas workers died and a fourth was injured in an accident
on the Catania-Syracuse highway, in the territory of Lentini.
Five workers, one was unhurt, were performing maintenance work in the emergency lane when they were run over by a truck.

Traffic was blocked at km 16.600, towards Siracusa, before the Serena tunnel.
According to the first reconstruction, the truck has invaded the emergency lane and the investigators are trying to ascertain the causes that caused the driver to lose control of the truck. "The facts are clear and the surveys carried out by the traffic police are confirming them: it was a human error," said the Syracuse attorney, Francesco Paolo Giordano. The man is under investigation in a state of freedom for multiple manslaughter, the blood tests have ruled out that he had used alcohol or drugs

The wounded man is hospitalized in red code in the Cannizzaro hospital in Catania, where he was transported in a 118 helicopter. His condition is defined as very serious. According to the first findings, the five workers were working in compliance with safety regulations
The president of Anas, Pietro Ciucci, has appointed a commission of inquiry to verify the dynamics of the accident.
